Defying The Conventions In Coaching

From Frustration to Innovation:

How I Created a Unique Life Coaching Model - and how there is a lesson and inspiration in that for us all.

Welcome again friends, and you may want to Bookmark this post.

As you know I am all about value. And this one required more than 'a few words.'

So grab yourself cup of the good stuff, whether Coffee or Tea or whatever else.

(Although I wouldn't recommend anything stronger, who am I to deny your tipple of choice !)

Sitting comfortably - good, lets begin...

It Wasnt Always A Success For Me:

Many years ago, before I embarked on the journey, of Creating my own Master Elements Coaching Model, I was entrenched in a cycle of dissatisfaction.

I had been dabbling in various conventional programs, attending workshops, and classes and such like.

Undertaking my training and reading countless self-help books diligently, all in the hopes of finding a system that resonated and connected with me.

Boy was that a big ask back in the day!

I was passionate about helping others achieve their dreams, but I felt like a misfit in the world of existing coaching methodologies. I also felt that everything was stifling and limiting.

My incessant questioning did not make me popular, but I have never been one to worry about that.

After all, it wasn't just peoples emotions that I was inspired to change.

I wanted to coach people on changing their perspectives, around the societal limitations of School, Debt, Work and then Retirement.

I have always valued my freedom, and I knew it was not just me who desired it.

This was a long time ago, well before any type of thinking like was acceptable.

In fact it caused many to shun me and doubt me.

Though years later those same people are now silently or otherwise thinking the same…And some of them even eventually became clients.

My biggest frustration back then was the rigidity and

lack of personal touch in the available coaching models.

They felt staid and tired, steeped in conventional wisdom that didn’t align with my personality and innovative (though admittedly contrarian thinking.)

These models seemed more like one-size-fits-all solutions, rather than tailored approaches that could adapt to the unique needs and aspirations of each individual.

Especially for those people who wanted to think differently, not just in ‘coping’ or ‘managing’ their emotions and life circumstances.

The lack of flexibility stifled my creativity and made me question whether I could truly make an impact in this field at some points too.

It didn't help that my Teachers all laughed at me, in not so many words.

After all, they were personifications of a ‘normal’ job too. Though there were some that I did also respect.

And before I talk about how I did things, I must caveat all the above.

There are plenty of brilliant aspects in conventional coaching systems, and I utilize many of them myself.

But to me its a matter of application. As well as perspective itself.

But in the midst of all of my frustration, I had an epiphany of sorts.

This is still long before I designed the Master Elements, but it is still the very thing that compelled me to eventually do so.

One evening, as I sat surrounded by notebooks filled with ideas and fragments of various coaching theories, I realized that the key to effective coaching wasn’t in conforming to existing models, but in creating a method that was inherently my own.

I understood that my unique perspective and energetic approach were assets, not obstacles.

And that I could work with the ‘models’ in my own way.

I then set about trialing sessions....

Using a combination of much of what I had been taught. But I did it with what was a ‘person centered approach’ more like a friend would than any kind of Coach.

My Teachers said;

‘Mike thats too personal, your not trying to be their friends.’

But the way that I saw it was the opposite. I knew that I listened to my friends more than them…

I discovered that I could develop a coaching model that was as dynamic and multifaceted as I was. This model would be rooted in the principles of personalization, flexibility, and creativity too.

It would focus on tapping into the individual strengths and passions of each client, rather than trying to mold them into a pre-existing framework.

My model would celebrate individuality and encourage clients to harness their unique talents to achieve greatness. But at the time these we fragmented thoughts.

Years later I collated and evolved it, to become the Model of which I still use to this day. And it is still actually constantly evolving just as I am.

My approach though was radical back in those days. Yet the results were profound and immediate.

Once I embraced the idea of creating my own life coaching model, my entire outlook transformed.

I was no longer constrained by the limitations of outdated methodologies. Instead, I was empowered by the freedom to innovate and inspire.

My coaching practice eventually flourished. But no lie this did not happen overnight.

But my plan was a slightly disruptive one, and I gave Clients who had previously struggled to find their footing in generic coaching programs free sessions, who then thrived under my personalized approach.

They felt heard, understood, and supported in ways they never had before.

Of course not all of them this worked for.

Some still preferred the more traditional approach.

But the flexibility of my style allowed them to set and achieve goals that were truly meaningful to them, fostering a sense of purpose and fulfillment in a very different way than simply ‘managing their emotions.

I went above and beyond for my cohort. And that is still what I do to this day.

My superpower is no-one is more invested than me - though I have put my whole business to one side.

(There are three of them actually. Coaching, Education and Commercial Writing/Consultancy)

And whilst I build this thing on X I entrust much to others but not all. That's partly why i work 18 hour days, 7 days a week.

And believe that means sacrificing a lot. But you will soon be able to see for yourself why I did this, once I release my materials to you.

And even already perhaps through my content on X, you can see that i'm hardly 'the norm.'

And some will of course love, some will hate it. But still I will always be me!

As a result, in the end my reputation as a coach skyrocketed. I became known for my ability to connect deeply with clients and guide them through transformative journeys.

I worked with adults and young people as well. But my latter years were even more interesting. Working with people you may well know too.

But im not here to try to impress you. Just as I am not even trying to convince you ‘i'm the best.’

I'm the best for the right type of people. But that doesn't mean others are ‘bad.’

Today, I am proud to say that I have created a life coaching model, that is both innovative and deeply personal too.

It has not only brought me immense satisfaction but also enabled countless individuals to unlock their potential and achieve their dreams.

I hope you have enjoyed this explanation. And i look forward to connecting with you again soon.

I will be releasing more details this week, just as I did touching on my plans before.

And it wont be that long until I will share everything, but for now please understand this takes time.

Yours,

Michael Masters - The Info Architect
