How To Change The World By Changing Ourselves First

Throughout my work over the last 20 years I have scrutinized and analyzed patterns of success and of exceptionalism with everybody I have worked with, as well as bulletproofing my own mindset, resolve and accomplishments. It has not been luck which has done this.

The traits of highly successful people are multitudinous and differ from person to person. Yet there is also always an overlap.

So in addition to the obvious. Having clear goals, distinguishing a gap in the market etc, there are other even more foundational traits which all of this must be built from. They are what we are going to be talking about today.

And success always leaves clues. My specialism has always been in educing it. Today I will share with you ten of the most important foundational traits that you can cultivate in order to propel and to maximize your potential.

At a micro level, success involves practical, actionable steps and personal strategies that individuals implement in their daily lives.

Here are the master elements of success on a micro level:

1. Personal Mindset

Self-Awareness: Regularly reflect on your thoughts and feelings as well as your results is what helps us to understand, recognize and amend our triggers and responses. Its easy to feel good when we are winning.

The winners though push through the tough times with an equally strong resolve. How?

Positive Self-Talk: Replace negative self-talk with positive affirmations and constructive thoughts to build confidence and resilience. But also be practical and be honest about your 'failings.' This is not a 'feel good' exercise. This is about evolving. Constantly.

2. Goal Setting and Planning

SMART Goals: Set Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound goals to create a clear and manageable path to success.

I have yet to meet anybody who has succeeded without a clear and structured plan, and the wherewithal to not only stay consistent, but to pivot when needed. It has worked for me, it can work for you as well.

Incremental Steps: Break down larger goals into smaller, achievable tasks to reduce the fear of overwhelming challenges. Face the fear and still stride forward courageously.

3. Skill Development

Continuous Learning: Dedicate time to learning new skills and improving existing ones, which will both boost confidence and reduce failure rates due to a lack of competence. We don't know what we don't know until we find out that we didn't know it. Become a lifelong learner. It is key.

Practice and Preparation: Regular practice and thorough preparation for tasks, meetings, presentations etc can significantly reduce anxiety about potential failure. In fact, every success begins in the mind first. Mental rehearsal does this, yet the 'average' person dismisses this as nonsense.

But only ever achieves average results.

4. Emotional Regulation

Mindfulness and Meditation: Practice mindfulness and meditation techniques to stay present and manage anxiety related to fear of failure.

Not everybody who I have worked with and s successful meditates. But very single one of them reflect deeply on what is working and also exactly what is not. Outliers have a reason to work harder than most people but they all have a pressure release valve of some kind. Mine is Motorcycling.

Unsuccessful peoples is often drink and drugs. I am all for enjoying your life. There is a time and a place for everything. No judgement, but you must decide.

Stress Management: Develop and use stress management techniques, to maintain emotional balance. My own self created Coaching system was partly created to help me to manage the high stress challenges of having such ambitious goals. It is vital to manage our emotional states.

5. Feedback and Reflection

Constructive Feedback: Seek out and embrace constructive feedback to learn from mistakes and improve performance. This is another area where ego prevents 'losers' from asking for and embracing criticism. You don't need to agree with it, but often the things that people can see are the very areas that we are blind to. That's one of the reasons why I have my very own 'Mastermind Group.' They tell me what they think i need to hear. Rarely is this what I 'want' to.

Regular Reflection: Engage in regular reflection on experiences, both successes and failures, to gain insights and learn lessons for future endeavors. It has to be this way.

6. Support Systems

Accountability Partners: Partner with someone who can hold you accountable for your goals and provide support and encouragement. (Ahem, coughs loudly)

Mentors and Coaches: Engage with mentors or coaches who can offer guidance, perspective, and practical advice. (Coughs loudly again.) That's right, Mr Masters has got you!

7. Resilience Building

Embrace Setbacks: View setbacks as natural parts of the learning process rather than as definitive failures. This is another trait that distinguishes the average from the Outlier. Facts.

Problem-Solving Skills: Develop strong problem-solving skills to navigate challenges and find solutions effectively. If you don't know the answer. Don't guess. You need people you can call on who will know. It is the only way to scale.

8. Healthy Lifestyle

Regular Exercise: Engage in regular physical activity to reduce stress and boost overall well-being.

Balanced Diet and Sleep: Maintain a balanced diet and ensure adequate sleep to support physical and mental health, enhancing your ability to cope with failures. You can train yourself to need less sleep than most people imagine possible. Massive goals are also the 'secret.'

9. Mindset Tools

Visualization: Use visualization techniques to imagine successful outcomes and reduce anxiety about failure. Every success begins in the mind first, don't believe me - just check out my posts.

Journaling: Keep a journal to track progress, reflect on experiences, and reinforce positive changes. It will also provide all of the content you will ever need to truly thrive. Its also a time machine for seeing how you have changed. Start it today. You will never regret doing this. Trust me.

10. Time Management

Prioritize Tasks: Prioritize tasks based on importance and urgency to manage time effectively and reduce the pressure of impending deadlines. And at the same time you also need to work really hard at keeping to them as well!

Avoid Procrastination: Use techniques such as the Pomodoro Technique or time blocking to stay focused and avoid procrastination. Time management is also a subject that i tweet about regularly (says the man who works regular 16 hour days) But hey - I didn't say that you needed to do that, but if you do decide to you will almost certainly experience wild and prolific growth.

By incorporating these micro-level strategies into daily routines, individuals can gradually build resilience, improve their response to failure, and develop a more positive and proactive approach to challenges. These elements provide practical tools to manage and overcome the fear of failure on a personal level, leading to greater confidence and success.

There are many more of them which I will share with you in latter posts and in Articles.
