Overcoming "I Don't Know What to Post About": Embracing Your Unique Perspective
Hey everybody and thanks so much for checking out the video.
And by virtue of you clicking this it is apparent that you are in the position that so many of us are, especially at the beginning of our content creation journey where your not quite sure what to write exactly where to begin. So in todays episode that is exactly what we are going to be covering, and by the end of the episode the goal is for you to have a very clear idea of where to begin and even to hopefully spark some new interest and avenues of thinking to empower and inspire you along the way.
So lets get into this without a moments delay. And solve your writers block forever.
One of the most common challenges that i faced - and so do many others when initially creating content without yet gaining an audience is the feeling of not knowing exactly what to post about or having a perceived level of ‘expertise’ enough to warrant sharing your perspective.
Many believe they need to be experts or possess groundbreaking ideas to provide value. However, this couldn't be further from the truth. Your unique skills, life experiences, perspectives, and insights are precisely what make your content valuable. Especially to beginners or those just a few steps behind you on their journey, you are already seen as an expert. Here’s how you can harness your unique perspective to create engaging and impactful content.
Embracing Your Unique Perspective
And the objection being that: "I don’t have anything unique to offer."
But the constructive counter argument is simple. Yet very very powerful. Every individual has a unique perspective shaped by their experiences, challenges, and successes and you always need to remember that this in itself is valuable. Sharing your personal journey, how you overcame obstacles, or what you’ve learned from specific experiences can resonate deeply with others. Your story might provide the exact inspiration or solution someone else needs. You just never know who is watching and we only need a handful of people to connect with and share our content to bypass reliance of algorithms etcetera and get your content shared.
Actionable Steps:
Reflect on Your Journey: Take time to think about significant moments in your life that have shaped who you are today. These could be personal achievements, professional milestones, or overcoming adversities.
Identify Key Lessons: What lessons did you learn from these experiences? How did they change your perspective or approach to certain situations?
Share Authentic Stories: Craft stories around these experiences. Be honest and open about the challenges you faced and how you overcame them. Authenticity builds trust and connection with your audience.
Document Your Learning Process
And the objection to this of course is that people still believe that there not an expert in anything."
But expertise is relative. Being a few steps ahead of your audience in a particular area makes you a valuable resource. Documenting your learning process and sharing what you discover along the way can provide immense value. Your progress, insights, and even mistakes can help others on similar paths.
And this is exactly how I suggest that we do so.
Actionable Steps:
Start Small: Begin with what you know, even if it’s basic. Many people are at the beginning of their journey and will find your insights helpful. Approach them online with a caring and sharing attitude, genuinely attempting to connect with their interests or provide a perspective which will help them accelerate their own progress towards their goals.
Share Your Progress: Regularly update your audience on what you’re learning and how you’re applying new knowledge. This not only provides content but also demonstrates growth and encourages others.
Highlight Mistakes and Lessons: Don’t shy away from sharing mistakes. They are part of the learning process and can be incredibly instructive for your audience.
Leverage Everyday Experiences
The objection being: "I don’t have enough content ideas."
And the Counterargument to this is very important too so please pay extra attention: Content can be drawn from every aspect of your life, including daily routines, hobbies, and professional insights. Your everyday experiences are filled with potential content that can inspire and connect with others. Don't think that you have enough experiences to write meaningful content around. Gather more interesting experiences and then share with others your perspective and your learnings.
Actionable Steps:
Document Daily Life: Use your daily activities as content opportunities. For example, share your morning routine, productivity tips, or how you organize your workspace.
Hobbies and Interests: Talk about your hobbies and interests. Whether it’s cooking, fitness, travel, or any other passion, there’s an audience interested in those topics. The big three eternal markets are Health, Wealth and Self Development. As long as there are human beings there will quite literally always be a market for improvement in all three areas.
Professional Insights: Share insights from your professional life. Discuss industry trends, tools you use, or advice for newcomers in your field.
Building a Community Around Shared Interests
And peoples objection around this is that they fear that they: won’t find an audience for their content even once its published. And whilst this is true especially at the start of your journey that is more a case of needing to build social proof to start the ball rolling. How do we do this? Well the simple answer is through consistent, quality, meaningful content. The longer answer is more detailed and will be covered in a future video which i am currently in the process of finishing, so watch out for that soon. But to wrap up todays key message think about it like this.
The internet has niches for virtually every interest. By sharing your unique combination of experiences, skills, and perspectives, you attract like-minded individuals who resonate with your message. Building a community around shared interests fosters engagement and loyalty. And the bottom line is if you were interested enough to write about it, somebody will certainly be interested enough to hear about it and relate your experiences to their own life. That is the way that we build and solidify initial online connections.
Continuous Learning and Sharing:
And I really want to address one other challenge which I most certainly encountered especially right at the start of my online adventures - and that is the fear of "running out of things to say." How totally wrong i was!
And my learning is that life is a continuous learning journey and each of us have a unique path and experiences of which to share outwardly.
And as you grow and evolve, so will your content. Share what you’re learning, new challenges you face, and how you’re overcoming them. This ongoing process ensures a steady stream of fresh content.
Final Actionable Steps:
Stay Curious: Keep learning new things. Take courses, read books, listen to podcasts, and stay updated with industry trends.
Share New Insights: Regularly share what you’re learning. This not only provides fresh content but also keeps your audience engaged.
Evolve Your Content: As your interests and expertise grow, let your content evolve with you. This keeps your content dynamic and relevant.
To Conclude.
Identify Your Niche: Determine what unique combination of interests and experiences you bring to the table. This helps in identifying your target audience.
Engage with Your Audience: Respond to comments, ask questions, and encourage interaction. Building a community is about fostering relationships as much as it is about pumping out content.
Encourage User-Generated Content: Invite your audience to share their stories and experiences. This not only provides content but also strengthens community bonds as well.
