Quiet Quitting refers to the act of giving up or abandoning one's goals, dreams, or efforts silently or without much outward expression. Unlike a dramatic announcement or visible cessation of activity, quiet quitting often involves a gradual withdrawal or disengagement from pursuing a goal or aspiration. It can manifest as a loss of motivation, a resignation to circumstances, or a settling into a state of mediocrity without actively pursuing personal growth or achievement.
In my Coaching Business I began by working exclusively with private clients. Since then it evolved into working with corporates, but I have seen both sides to the Industry and experienced and supported many challenges. Often the coaching relationship can veer into deep and personal details of a persons life. Quiet Quitting though is a subject which does not get spoken about much here on X as we are surrounded in the main by focused and positive people. But it very much exists.
Have you ever heard of it?
People who engage in quiet quitting may not vocalize their decision to give up; instead, they may simply stop taking action, lose enthusiasm, or become resigned to their current situation. It can be insidious because it happens without drawing attention, leading to a gradual erosion of ambition and drive. Recognizing and addressing quiet quitting involves introspection, acknowledging one's current state, and recommitting to goals with renewed determination.
IIt’s so sad when I hear from peoples whose biggest problem is that they are so lost, or have given up hope to the point that they don’t even know what to do anymore, or even where to begin, so they just continue as they are, continuing to survive the drudgeries of life within a stressed existence or the experience of feeling helpless. Sadly living a life of quiet desperation. Barely surviving emotionally, let alone thriving is very real.
Some people, they recognize their pain and take measures to block it out or to nullify it through negative habits or behaviors, through drink or drugs or overeating or any other type of immediately gratifying, but ultimately damaging and negative behaviors. In my content today I have spoken a lot about the business of business, and whether a job or other means such as creating a product or a service are 'right' for you. (To consider)
Other people of course avoid destructive urges and actions and may even know exactly what it is they want, but lack the means, directional clarity or exact action steps to take in order to actually achieve it.
Whilst others accept their lot with stoicism, and seek as much joy and positivity as they are able to manage, within the confines of their own day to day survival, and business and challenges. But many of these people too are also living a life of quietly desperate mediocrity, without even knowing exactly what the root cause of their problem really actually is either. But in those quiet moments, when all is still and they actually have time to really think about life…Many know something is not quite right…Something is amiss...There must be more than this…
For others, their goals seem so out of reach and may have even tried and failed in the past to achieve them so often, that they have consequently now given up even trying. Then, there are some who are different again…The 1%. Those who choose to walk a different path. They are the ones who are determined to find a way or to make one.
If you truly aspire to greatness, this is the mindset you must cultivate as a running theme from now until at least the day that you finish this process. Maybe even every day for the rest of your life.
Some people do not back down or ever give up. Fewer still learn and then implement the exact steps and mindsets they need to sustain action long enough in order to achieve what it is that they desire.
And finally there are the ones that make it. Those very few who do manage to stay the course and to eventually succeed in whatever it is that they desire to have, do or to become.
Were they just lucky? Some people will say that they were. Some people might say that they made their own luck. Many peoples opinion will fall somewhere into the middle of the two extremes of that.
But nobody else’s opinion actually matters. All that actually matters is your own. Your own identity. Your own destiny.
There are some who stand up and face the adversity, or the ridicule or the jealousy or the hate directly. They stare it in the eyes and say.
‘I am unique, capable, I am different. I will not settle or rest until I have achieved everything I aspire to. I will find or create the way to achieve it.’’
Which one if any of these groups of people can you most relate to?
Who will you be?
Stand up and be counted and let your light shine as we embark together on this journey of discovery.
